SideLeague’s MLB Fantasy Plays for 8/4/14

What’s good SideLeaguers? Got a case of the Mondays? Well, shake it off and play some fantasy baseball with us on our app. (You can download it for iOS & Android at We’ve got a short slate of games tonight, so let’s get into tonight’s picks.

Max Scherzer – With tonight’s slate, if you’re gonna go with any pitcher tonight make sure you make it count. Max Scherzer’s my #1 choice, this Yankees lineup can definitely be tamed.

Alex Cobb – Cobb’s allowed 1 earned run in his last 2 starts and struck out 22 men. The Oakland offense is capable of big things, but I think Cobb navigates rough waters fairly well tonight.

Kevin Gausman – You wanna take a gamble tonight? Go with Gausman. The Nats strike out at a 21% clip against RHP, that’s a good enough rate to consider Gausman as a play tonight.

Tyler Flowers – Flowers has been swinging the bat well over the last month/when he started wearing glasses. Who would’ve thunk that seeing the ball better would mean that you would hit the ball better.

Carlos Santana – Cleveland eats against RHPs this season. I think Carlos Santana leads the charge here tonight.

Ben Zobrist – Zobrist is hitting above .350 since the all-star break. Samardzija is a handful but I think Zobrist can get the job done tonight.

Nick Castellanos – Brandon McCarthy’s been a bit better since coming to New York but he can still leave that ball up a bit. If he does, expect Castellanos to be all over it tonight.

Mike Aviles – See Santana, Carlos

Mike Trout – I don’t care if it’s Zack Greinke, Trout’s always in play.

Torii Hunter – Hunter’s hitting over .325 with 3 home runs since the all-star break. He’s hit .500 against Brandon McCarthy lifetime. Hunter’s a great option tonight.
